The Templars bascially become a part of the Inquisition, they defer to your judgement on many matters. Plus, you CAN trust Ser Barris. You and him can end up reshaping the Templars into an honorable, respected, and powerful order once more with new purpose. Why would anyone side with the templars? I played a mage in every dragon age game. Fereldan temperlars are a decent sort. Kirkwall's are screwed up. But in dragon age inquisition go out of its way to show how screwed up the templars have become. Just in the first area alone i encounter: Templars killing people I prefer the Templar storyline (envy demon is cooler than time travel and ties a bit into Trespassers themes, the actual dungeon bit in the mage quest is tedious for me on repeats, even though the conversations about the lost year are cool) and think it makes more sense unless your character already hates the Templars or loves the mages, more neutral characters seem more likely to side with
